Senior Scientist - Resin Chemistry, Sunresin

The company is a newly established Swedish subsidiary of a leading global manufacturer of chromatography resins, now building its European hub in Uppsala. The site brings together research, development and production of agarose-based chromatography resins and affinity ligands, supported by a strong multinational group.
This is a unique opportunity to shape both strategy and execution, building a function that will become a cornerstone of the company’s global biopharmaceutical purification platform.
The Role
As Senior Scientist, Resin Chemistry, you will play a central role in establishing and leading the resin chemistry function at the new Uppsala site. This position combines strategic responsibility with hands-on laboratory work, with focus on research and development of agarose-based chromatography resins.
Your responsibilities will include developing methods for emulsification processes, surface activation and click-chemistry ligand coupling, as well as scaling up from lab to production. You will work primarily with agarose and cellulose matrices, applying principles of material design and material science to create high-performance chromatography media.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Lead R&D and production activities for agarose-based chromatography resins
- Develop and optimize methods for surface modification, activation, and ligand coupling
- Scale processes from lab to production in alignment with ISO quality standards
- Supervise and mentor a technician and collaborate cross-functionally with ligand development and site operations
- Implement and maintain documentation and procedures to support ISO certification and regulatory compliance
- Support technology transfer and continuous improvement initiatives
- Contribute to strategic planning and team growth as the site expands
The company is located in Uppsala Business Park and you will be part of a growing team.
Your Profile
Your have a solid background in chemistry or material science, with experience from development and production environments. You have worked with chromatography resins or related materials and are familiar with techniques such as emulsification, surface modification and modern coupling methods. While you bring relevant technical knowledge, what truly distinguishes you is your ability to combine this expertise with a practical, solution-oriented approach.
With an entrepreneurial mindset and curiosity to explore new ways of working, you are motivated by the opportunity to help build a new operation from the ground up. You thrive in dynamic environments, are not discouraged by uncertainty, and use both your own experience and your professional network to find the right answers and solutions.
Competencies & Areas of Expertise
- MSc / PhD in Chemistry, or significant experience in a relevant field
- Strong background in surface modification, activation chemistry, and ligand coupling
- Experience with agarose or other polymer-based resin systems
- Proven ability to work across R&D and production environments
- Hands-on, collaborative, and excited to contribute to a fast-growing site
- Fluent in English; proficiency in Swedish is an advantage
